Kontan - Barito Pacific Group, one of Indonesia's leading multinational conglomerates, continues to expand its business across the region. With an operating track record of 47 years in Indonesia since its founding in 1979, the group has consistently been a driver of national economic growth through strategic contributions in the basic industry and clean energy sectors.
Through its subsidiary PT Chandra Asri Pacific Tbk (Chandra Asri Group), the group pioneered the foundation of the national petrochemical industry as the first company to operate a naphtha cracker, meeting the raw material needs of domestic industry. In renewable energy, PT Barito Renewables Energy Tbk (Barito Renewables) now operates a range of geothermal fields with a total capacity of 926 MW, supplying clean electricity to millions of people while fully supporting Indonesia's energy transition agenda.
Regional Expansion with Domestic Control
In recent years, Barito Pacific Group has been pursuing integrated expansion. In petrochemicals, Chandra Asri Group continues to add production capacity and launch new derivative product variants to reduce dependence on imported products. In line with this, Barito Renewables is actively increasing installed green energy capacity across its operating areas.
The group's latest strategic move has taken it into regional markets through investments in and acquisitions of strategic assets abroad, which are then recorded in Indonesia.
"This expansion is aimed not only at driving business growth and scale, but also at strengthening our industrial base in Indonesia as a driver of downstream industry growth. Through ownership of the Aster assets in Singapore, Chandra Asri Group can support national energy security by supplying vital petroleum products, such as gasoline, jet fuel, gas oil, and bitumen, to meet the needs of various domestic industries," said Rudy Suparman, Vice President Director of PT Barito Pacific Tbk.
"This is a strategy to consolidate revenue in Indonesia, which means ensuring that the business scale, revenue, expertise, market access, and funding capacity gained through regional expansion remain under our control and are reflected in our financial statements here," Rudy added.
Sustained Investment in Indonesia
Barito Pacific Group's massive domestic investment also continues on a sustainable basis. Chandra Asri is currently building a chlor-alkali and ethylene dichloride (CA-EDC) plant worth more than US$800 million. As of mid-2026, construction has reached 72 percent, with operations targeted to begin in 2027. The plant, which is a National Strategic Project, is designed to reduce dependence on imports of strategic chemical raw materials and strengthen the domestic industrial chain, with investment support from Danantara Indonesia and the Indonesia Investment Authority.
In renewable energy, Barito Renewables operates 1 gigawatt of installed capacity comprising geothermal and wind power located in several provinces in Indonesia.
The expansion and capacity upgrades of the geothermal power plants at Salak, Darajat, and Wayang Windu are aimed at bringing the group's geothermal capacity beyond 1 gigawatt by the end of 2026. Barito Pacific also has a foothold in electricity infrastructure through Jawa 9 and 10, two units each with a capacity of 1,000 megawatts, operated together with Indonesia Power.
Barito Pacific Group's Total Investment over the Last Five Years
Rudy also added that the group has invested substantial capital expenditure of around US$5 billion over the past five years, with about 90 percent allocated in Indonesia. This figure reflects an expansion strategy that keeps Indonesia as the center of growth, while leveraging overseas assets to expand markets, diversify revenue sources, and strengthen the group's overall competitiveness.
This model is what positions Barito Pacific as an Indonesian company with multinational reach, one that grows across borders yet keeps Indonesia as the center of control, consolidation, investment, and long-term value creation. ***
