Cilegon, 24 September 2026 – KOLASE (Kolaborasi Ekonomi Sirkular Kelola Sampah di Sekolah / Circular Economy Collaboration for Waste Management in Schools), a collaborative program initiated by the Cilegon City Environmental Agency (DLH), PT Chandra Asri Pacific Tbk (Chandra Asri Group), and Yayasan Bakti Barito, has expanded its implementation to 120 schools across Cilegon City. The expansion builds on the replication of the KOLASE program, which has been implemented since 2023 in 20 schools.

KOLASE encourages students and teachers to initiate waste management at the source through waste segregation practices, while strengthening connections between schools and waste banks to ensure that segregated waste can be collected and further managed. The program is also supported by segregated waste drop boxes and waste compactors to facilitate waste sorting and collection within school environments.

Since its implementation in 2023, KOLASE has continued to evolve to expand school participation in waste management. In 2025, the program was implemented in 20 schools and successfully managed 35 tons of waste in collaboration with waste bank partners. This achievement became one of the foundations for expanding KOLASE to more schools across Cilegon City, while demonstrating the potential of schools to contribute to waste management efforts starting at the source.

The expansion of the program also strengthens the role of schools as part of the city’s waste management ecosystem. Through KOLASE, students, teachers, and members of the school community are involved in segregating waste at the source, while waste banks play a role in collecting and managing sorted materials so they can re-enter the utilization chain.

At the inauguration of the KOLASE program, Cilegon Mayor Robinsar said, “Waste is a development challenge that we must address together. Cilegon City recognizes the urgency of changing the way we view waste by managing it from the source, through segregation, reuse, and optimization of its economic value. Cilegon City continues to promote waste management efforts while building new habits and a new culture in how we treat waste. Schools are the right place to initiate this change because they provide an environment where character and habits can be shaped from an early age.”

Chandra Asri Group Director of Legal, External Relations, and Circular Economy, Edi Rivai, explained, “As an industrial player in Cilegon City, Chandra Asri Group recognizes the importance of collaboration in promoting waste management practices starting at the source. Through KOLASE, we support schools in establishing waste segregation practices while strengthening their connections with waste banks, so that sorted waste can be managed more effectively and has the opportunity to generate value again.”

“With 120 schools involved, KOLASE has the potential to expand waste segregation practices among more members of the school community, create economic benefits through the involvement of 11 waste bank partners, and reduce the amount of waste ending up in landfills. We hope this collaboration will continue to grow and become part of a collective effort to strengthen the circular economy ecosystem in Cilegon City. As a Growth Partner, Chandra Asri Group will continue to foster collaboration and create benefits for the environment and society,” Edi added.

In line with these efforts, Chandra Asri Group and Yayasan Bakti Barito also provide support for the implementation of KOLASE, which was initiated by the Cilegon City Environmental Agency. The support includes the provision of facilities to support waste management in schools, which are expected to strengthen waste management practices while creating economic value for schools and students. Going forward, the sustainability of KOLASE is expected to continue to be supported through collaboration among various stakeholders, enabling more schools and stakeholders to contribute to strengthening the waste management ecosystem in Cilegon City.

Yayasan Bakti Barito Director, Dian A. Purbasari, said, “Schools are places where the habits and character of the younger generation are shaped. Through KOLASE, schools are not only places to learn about the importance of waste segregation, but also spaces where students can directly practice waste management and see its benefits. Consistent learning and practice are expected to shape habits that students can carry into their families and communities. In line with Yayasan Bakti Barito’s commitment to supporting education and the environment, we support KOLASE through the Green Guardians program as a tangible step to connect learning at school with circular economy practices and introduce the potential economic value of waste management,” said Dian.

KOLASE is expected to serve as a collaborative model that strengthens the school-based waste management ecosystem in Cilegon City. Head of the Cilegon City Environmental Agency, Sabri, said, “The 120 schools currently participating in KOLASE are schools that have demonstrated their commitment to sustainable waste management. The Cilegon City Environmental Agency previously engaged with schools that were interested in participating in waste management efforts starting at the source. Going forward, KOLASE will remain open to other schools that share the commitment and are interested in participating, enabling more schools to become part of the collective
